Why Keep a Cricket Training-Log?
There are several reasons to keep a cricket training-log, but perhaps the most important is the ability to measure your stress responses from the previous days volume and intensity of your workouts.
Many cricket players keep a log of their cricket activities in a written journal, which limits the cricket players ability to analyze past data easily and quickly. However, cricket players might find it useful to switch to an electronic version moving forward. There are many electronic cricket training-logs on the market today, but the future of these training-logs will be in the data analysis and how it can improve cricket performance. Logging data variables will not be the value, but rather how we analyze and interpret that data from ones training will become the most important.
Currently there are more then 144 different sports training software on the market, the majority of them focus on endurance sports. Yet, endurance sports only account for approximately 20% of the Olympic sports cricket players train for as a pinnacle goal. Eighty percent of the sports do not have an electronic training-log specific to their sport available on the market today.
All cricket players in all sports can benefit by keeping a cricket training-log. The first step in determining whether your workout is effective or not would be to track the volume of time and psychological Intensity (RPE) from all your workouts in a day.
Keeping notes for all your entries electronically could allow you to review your statements should your stress responses be off from the previous days workout. Another useful method would be to quickly identify injuries on a timeline from the prescription of the volume and intensity of the workout.
For those who are teenage cricket players , tracking your height and graphing your growth percentages each month could be used as an indicator to adjust your training plan.
Some cricket players might use a cricket training-log for the purpose of monitoring their weight while exercising. By tracking your weight you can measure the increases or decreases in percentages over time.
Using best practices and recording these basic measurements daily in an electronic format can measure the effectiveness of your workout using evidence-based coaching methods. The aggregated data over time could be analyzed in weekly, monthly, annual and multi-year data streams that could help you achieve a higher level of cricket performance through electronic performance analysis.
